At the beginning of an assessment with a neuropsychologist, we collect some information on your social, medical, psychological, and work history. We will discuss with you your current circumstances, reason for referral, and what you want to achieve from the assessment.
Decision making capacity assessments involve an initial consultation with your neuropsychologist to establish your suitability for assessment. After the initial consultation, if an assessment is deemed appropriate, you will be booked in for the next available time slot. The initial consultation is charged at the standard hourly rate - please contact reception for fee information.
The neuropsychologist will guide you through some pencil and paper tasks, as well as some iPad activities, and each of these is designed to assess a particular aspect of your thinking, or emotions. For example, you may be asked to remember some words or pictures, repeat some digits, or solve a short problem. You may also be asked to fill out some short questionnaires.
After the results have been collated, the neuropsychologist will discuss the findings with you, and what they mean for your everyday function. We might talk about the reasons for the changes you have experienced, or we might discuss some strategies to help you with your daily function and independence. If you wish, we can share this with
After the results have been collated, the neuropsychologist will discuss the findings with you, and what they mean for your everyday function. We might talk about the reasons for the changes you have experienced, or we might discuss some strategies to help you with your daily function and independence. If you wish, we can share this with the people caring for you or supporting you. There might be some other recommendations as a result of the assessment, and follow-up sessions may also be offered.
